Experiencing Cinema through Sensory Assault

Movies that shake, rattle and roll viewers, or assault their senses of smell, might become the next big thing if a new wave of so-called 4-D technologies grabs filmgoers’ imaginations.

Recently, we’ve had some small tremors in California, which have inspired us to revisit Cinema in experience. The multi-sensory experience in Cinema has yet to be fully explored. Some interesting insights from a recent showing up Noah show the consumer response quite clearly.

Could you imagine watching a movie and the place starts shaking? Imagine a theatre that provided such an experience to their movie-goers. Hint, Hint, Movie Theatre Owners. 🙂

There are some innovative individuals already taking strides to make similar experiences happen in cinema.

In Los Angeles, a South Korean company, called CJ Group is working a deal with AEG to open on e of the first 4D theaters in the United States. The theater in downtown L.A. will use wind, strobe, fog, rain and scent-based effects in sync with the movie on screen to create a fully immersive experience.

Here you can see a new cinema chair system which allows users to experience movies differently through technology.

Los Angeles was the natural choice for us in making it the first U.S. location to carry 4DX. We wanted to bring this experience to where all the movie magic happens,” said Byung Hwan Choi, CEO of CJ 4DPlex, a division of CJ Group. “With AEG, owner and host of the world’s most exciting entertainment venues as our strategic partner, we are very much looking forward to welcoming our audiences to a moviegoing experience never before seen in the U.S.”

This could get me going back out to the movies again.
